About our Small Pet Boarding

Fur and Feathers is a small family run business boarding a variety small animals at our home in Northampton. We take a limited number of animals for boarding so there is plenty of time and attention for your pet . We also offer a daily pop-in service for your pets left at home to feed water, fuss, play etc. including dogs, cats, small caged pets and chickens.
Sorry we don't take caged birds.

Accommodation:

Outdoor rabbit and guinea pigs will reside in either a RWAF and RSPCA recommended size 6 x 2 x 2 ft hutch or a 4 foot double-decker hutch, depending on their size and number. They will have full daytime access to a 40 square metre secure covered run. Heat lamps are available in cold weather. Frozen water bottles and ice packs are provided for cooling in hot weather.

Chickens and ducks will have a secure run with nesting boxes and perches for chickens. They will also have daytime access to a fenced area of the garden to range and ducks have a splash pool.

Indoor pets can be brought in their own cages and will reside in a separate room in our house with heating and air conditioning provided as needed. We have a limited number of enclosures for guinea pigs but you can bring your own cage if you wish. We do not take rabbits in their own cages but they can use our spacious indoor enclosures.

For tortoises we have both and indoor and outdoor enclosures available for booking, with lighting and heating provided as required.

Exercise:

Outdoor rabbits have 24 hr access to a minimum 40 square metre covered runs. Some rabbit runs are on grass and some contain dig boxes. Guinea pigs also have full access to a grass run. Indoor pets can be exercised according to their individual requirements and indoor rabbits have twice daily exercise opportunity.

Health & Hygiene:

Rabbits must be vaccinated for Myxomatosis, RVHD 1 and 2 at least 3 weeks before their stay. All hutches and equipment are cleaned between guests with pet safe disinfectant or dishwashed at 60c. In the event of ill health we will use your own vet where possible - if not our own local vet. For pets on regular medication please bring enough to last for their stay. We are experienced at providing for 'special needs' pets.

Small Pet Boarding Prices

Prices start at £5.00 per day for small indoor pets eg hamsters, mice, gerbils and £7.00 per day for outdoor pets. A non refundable deposit is required to secure a booking. We accept cash, cheque, bank transfer..

For tortoises using our enclosures there is a £10 one off set up fee. This is because adaptations are required to ensure environment is suitable for each individual pet.
