About our Small Pet Boarding

At Candy's Animal Ark, we have a purpose built garden unit with high quality hutches for "five star" holiday boarding for your guinea pigs.

It is run by Laura Candy who holds a BTEC Animal Management Diploma with distinctions.

We have been successfully established for more than 10 years and with a recent refurbishment and constant updating of equipment, we are able to provide a truly unique service.

We are also stockists of Haypigs! cage enrichment products and hold the full range of items.

Accommodation:

Please note that we are specialist guinea pig boarders only.

The hutches are spacious, light and airy, with fun and colourful decorations. They are circus themed and equipped with Haypigs! enrichment toys and a wonderful fleece hidey.

The Ark has double doors to allow plenty of natural light and fresh air.

The Arks are also protected by 24 hour video security cam, for complete peace of mind.

Food (Burgess Excel only) and bedding is included in the price, plus fresh fruit and vegetables offered daily.

If your pet is on a special diet, you will need to supply enough food for your stay.

The Ark is securely locked at night and there is always someone on the premises.

Exercise:

All guinea pigs are exercised in outdoor runs daily, for as long as possible and weather permitting.

We health check and handle all pets daily and they are conveyed from hutch to run in absolute safety, in our special carriers.

Health & Hygiene:

We use Safe4 disinfectant for all our cleaning and never mix your pets with others.

Every hutch and run is thoroughly cleaned at every changeover.

We use custom made fleece cage liners, with absorbent inner cores.

These are changed on a daily basis, which prevents odours and the risk of fly strike and of course is clean, safe and comfortable for your guinea pigs.

We reserve the right to refuse admission if we believe your pet is suffering from a contagious disease.

We highly recommend that your guinea pigs are treated for mites on a regular basis. We offer this treatment here at The Ark and this prevents spread of infection. This is only a recommendation and is not compulsory.

Small Pet Boarding Prices

Boarding prices for 2024

Open from Wednesday 27th March - Monday 4th November

£12.00 per day, for up to three guinea pigs sharing one hutch. The price remains the same whether you are boarding one, two or three.

The price is per day inclusive of whether you arrive or collect morning or afternoon.
Arrivals and collections are by appointment only during Ark hours, arranged at the time of booking.

We will require a non-refundable deposit of £20 to secure your booking, which will be deducted from your final payment - to be paid by bank transfer or cheque, please.

For bookings over three weeks, we require a £50 deposit.

Full payment to be made before collection day, by cheque or bank transfer. Sorry - we do not accept cards.

Please note: All bookings must be made by an adult, (over 18 years of age)

Other Services

We offer nail clipping and mite treatment, whether you are a boarder or not. This service is available all year round at the cost of £5 per guinea pig for nails and £4.50 each for Ivermectin 'spot on' mite treatment (three month effective)

We are open to take bookings all year round, during Ark hours but please note that we only board from April to October.

If your pet is on daily medication of any kind, we will need advance notice and there will be an extra charge of £2 per day inclusive for administering.

We will not be responsible for invasive procedures such as injections or impaction relief.

Please do not call us after 6pm, as we will not be able to help you. Any texts or emails sent after 6pm will be dealt with the next day.
